about Teeth Whitening

Why do teeth change color?
There are several causes of tooth discoloration, including food and drinks like coffee, tea, wine and tobacco. Medications and disease can also cause discoloration, and your teeth naturally darken with age.
How does Teeth Whitening work?

Teeth whitening is a simple process. Whitening products contain one of two tooth bleaches (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide). These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the color less concentrated and your teeth brighter.

This procedure generally takes approximately two hours to complete in the office in a single visit to whiten your teeth. It is design for patients who wants to whiten your teeth quick and patients who do not have time to do it themselves. However, teeth do darken naturally over time, therefore, we will still create molds of your teeth that will be used to fabricate custom, clear plastic trays. These trays are designed for patients to do simple touch up whiten on their own to maintain their bright white smile.

Why Get Your Teeth Whitened in a Dental Office?
One of our dentists will use a procedure called chairside bleaching and usually requires only one office visit. Your dentist will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect your gums. Bleach is then applied to the teeth. A special light or laser might be used to enhance the action of the whitening agent. Your teeth can literally brighten up to 10 shades in about an hour.

The dentist is also well qualified to handle any issues that may arise from whitening treatments, such as tooth sensitivity.

Finally, professional teeth whitening can last for one or more years, depending on how well you take care of your teeth, and if you’re following up regularly with a home whitening product for regular maintenance
What Kind Of Follow Up Care Should I Expect?
The dentist will clearly explain the procedure and give care instructions for both your teeth and the whitening trays. Many patients experience tooth sensitivity during the whitening process, but it passes quickly once the treatment period is complete. The effect is not permanent, so a touch-up may be necessary every few years, particularly if you smoke, or drink coffee, tea, or wine. Naturally, brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits will help maintain the beauty of your smile.
